I haven’t done this thing in years. Many of you might have done it in your childhood, and for many it may be a new thing, a new learning. Allow me to demonstrate how to create a simple musical tool, The Balloon Drum.
Materials required: A torn piece of balloon, an empty cup, and a rubber band.
Stretch the balloon piece flat over the mouth of the cup:
Tie down with the rubber band, so it is airtight.
Your balloon drum is ready. Pinch it to make a “Twangggg” sound.

Hahahaha.. nice 1!! it reminds me of how, in those days, some mizo bands used to create double bass instrument by using old tea parcel boxes.. lolz!!
ReplyDeleteDidn't they say necessity is the mother of invention?
DeleteHahaha...simple but lovely.
ReplyDeleteKum riat ka nih laia, ka nau ka tih tahna chhan a ni. A hnuah a biangah zawi tein ka fawp a, a mittui nena a nuih kiang kiang lai; ka mitthla ah a la cham reng...
Nau te tih tah leh tih lawm chu i thiam zawng tak a ni maw! You must have been a sweet little boy :)
DeleteMade that in office the other day.. didnt even need the rubber band cos' the tension in the balloon is sufficient to pull it tight enough to hold onto the cup.. my colleagues were amazed.. I was the "Man with the drum" up until we realised we wasted a good hour which could've been productive.. hehe..
ReplyDeletePS: Put your lips on the edge of the cup (as if you were drinking out of it) and blow really hard.. makes one hell of an annoying sound too.. 2 musical atrocities in one!
I got this inspiration after some of the balloons in the office burst and I saw the torn piece just lying around. I think I too should demonstrate this to my colleagues.
DeleteAnd yes, we too used to make that brrrpppp sound just like you said. Isn't it funny how we all did the same things during our childhood?
